Fun Diving, AOW Training, and Refresher Dives in Kushimoto!
A Fully Booked Holiday Weekend!
Japan's three-day October holiday weekend has already come to an end!
This morning, we split into two teams for fun diving and AOW training.
For the first fun dive, we headed out to look for juvenile Ribbon eel, following a guest's request.
Visibility around the nearby dive sites was excellent at 15–20m, and the water temperature was around 25°C. Very comfortable diving conditions!
Recently, this little fish has sometimes been hiding in its hole, so we were a bit nervous about whether we would find it. Luckily, it was out today!
Apparently, it sometimes stays hidden for a while after feeding. It did a great job entertaining divers throughout the holiday weekend, so maybe it'll take a day off during the week! (^^;)
More Amazing Macro Life in Kushimoto!
We also enjoyed finding lots of other tiny marine creatures.
We've been seeing more and more Phycocaris simlans recently.
And today, we found another new location! We can now observe them at every dive site in our main nearby diving area♪
I'm finally starting to feel confident about the types of underwater growth and habitats where they're likely to be found.
Now I really want to find a green one too! (Haha)
We've also been seeing various nudibranchs lately. The rare Miamira moloch is still around!
It had moved a little from where we last saw it, but its large size makes it relatively easy to spot. (^^)
Finally, here's one more tiny creature!
This is Pseudocryptochirus viridis, with its beautiful body colors. I think it was only about 5mm in size!
It's a little difficult to appreciate its detailed patterns with the naked eye, but when you photograph it using microscope mode, its beautiful colors really stand out.
Back Underwater After 20 Years! Refresher Diving in Kushimoto
In the afternoon, I went refresher diving with a guest who was returning to scuba diving after an incredible 20-year break!
I'm truly grateful that they chose Kushimoto, and our dive shop, as the place to start diving again. (TT)
Before the first dive, we went over essential diving skills and equipment setup to help refresh their memory.
But once we got underwater, I was amazed at how well they dived! Their buoyancy control was just as good as that of divers who had been diving recently.
I really couldn't believe it had been 20 years since their last dive! (^^;)
Because of our schedule, we did two beach dives today, taking our time in the shallows and getting comfortable with diving again.
It seemed that being able to relax and enjoy the underwater world after such a long break was exactly what our guest needed!
I really hope this experience inspires them to come back and dive in Kushimoto again!
We were fully booked throughout all three days of the October holiday weekend!
A huge thank you to everyone who came diving with us!!
Even though the holiday weekend is over, there's still plenty of great diving to enjoy in Kushimoto throughout late October and November!
Whether you love searching for tiny macro creatures or you're thinking about getting back into diving after a long break, we'd love to welcome you! (^^)
Bookings for November weekends are starting to fill up, so if you're planning fun dives or refresher dives in Kushimoto, please contact us early!
