Another New Harlequin Shrimp Appears!
After a long stretch of rainy weather, the skies finally cleared and we had a beautiful sunny day in Kushimoto.
With such lucky conditions, we headed out for some fun diving with a guest visiting us from Germany.
It was our guest’s first time diving in Japan, so we showed them a variety of marine life that represents Kushimoto, from wide-angle scenes to macro subjects.
For our first dive, we headed to a site where you can currently see a large school of Butterflyfish.
What an incredible sight!
We’re not sure how long the school will stay this year, but right now is a great chance to experience this impressive gathering of Butterflyfish!
Visibility had also recovered to around 15m, making the school look even more impressive underwater（＾＾）
Later, we unexpectedly ran into a former Susami dive guide underwater, who showed us another Harlequin Shrimp!!
Running into each other again after such a long time and being shown this was quite an impressive reunion（＾＾；）
When we went to take a look, the Harlequin Shrimp wasn’t hiding at all and was walking around on top of the rock.
If you look very closely at the photo, you can see it holding a small starfish leg. I wonder if it’ll still be there next time~~?
For our second dive, we headed to a site on the southern side of the bay.
Here, we focused mainly on the macro and tiny marine life that makes diving in Kushimoto so much fun.
First up was Colpodaspis thompsoni. When it comes to tiny subjects, this is definitely one of them! It’s a tiny nudibranch measuring only around 1–3mm.
We also found another juvenile Regal angelfish, which has been especially abundant this year.
This individual is very easy to photograph and makes a great subject.
It’s even easy to photograph with a TG camera. Maybe this will be our go-to spot for juvenile Regal angelfish from now on.
We also saw Long nose seahorse, which one of our guests found yesterday, along with many other marine creatures.
From fish that have been staying around for a while to newly discovered marine life, we enjoyed a full day of diving from wide-angle to macro.
Tomorrow will be another full day in the water with an AOW course and Discover Scuba Diving!
From boat diving and beach diving to night diving, we’ll be enjoying the ocean from morning until night!!!
Autumn is here, and the schools of fish will continue to get denser as the season progresses.
October and November are a great time to dive in Kushimoto, so come and dive with us!!
