Fun Diving in Kushimoto with Guests from the Netherlands and Japan
It was rainy in Kushimoto this morning, but the weather gradually cleared up toward noon.
Visibility remained great at around 20 meters, and the water temperature was in the 27°C range. Great conditions for diving♪
Today, we went fun diving with an international team, including a guest from the Netherlands, a Japanese guest enjoying their first fun dives, and one of our returning guests.
Our guest on their first fun dives was amazed by the beautiful water and said they had no idea there was such a beautiful ocean so close by! (^^)
Kushimoto Blue is looking fantastic right now, and everyone who comes diving seems to fall in love with the ocean here!!
Even at our local dive sites, we can encounter some impressive large fish.
One of them is Long tooth grouper.
Today, we found three Long tooth groupers during our dives!!!
They were all large and impressive♪
During our final dive, while we were taking photos of a Long tooth grouper, an spotfin burrfish kept swimming into the frame. (^^;)
Maybe it wanted us to take its photo too??
From Large Fish to Tiny Macro Life
We are also starting to find more interesting macro life.
Today, we found a tiny Long nose seahorse!!
We had been searching for one since the typhoon, and finally managed to find one again.
This fish is incredibly good at blending in with branches, so when searching for one, you just have to believe that it is there!
Since the Kuroshio Current’s large meander ended, we have been seeing more species from southern waters, and we are also noticing changes among the nudibranchs.
One example is Goniobranchus kuniei.
When I first came to Kushimoto, I used to see this nudibranch quite often. But after the large meander of the Kuroshio Current began, it disappeared from our dives.
Since the Kuroshio Current moved closer to Kushimoto last year, we have started seeing more of them again!!
Nature is amazing.
And finally, the find that got me the most excited today was Siphopteron tigrinum.
I can’t even remember the last time I saw this nudibranch!
It was only about 5 mm in size and incredibly tiny, but when I found it, I couldn’t help shouting, “Ohhh!!” underwater. lol
From schools of fish to tiny nudibranchs, this is a great time of year to observe a wide variety of marine life in Kushimoto.
Whether you enjoy macro photography or wide-angle diving, there is plenty to enjoy in the ocean here right now.
As we move into September and October, the ocean will continue to change with the season, bringing even more to look forward to.
Unfortunately, we are already fully booked throughout Silver Week, but we still have some availability on weekends before and after the holiday period, as well as on weekdays.
