A Fun Day of Diving with Guests from the UK!
The weather forecast was calling for rain, but luckily it turned out to be wrong in the best possible way. We had beautiful weather all day here in Kushimoto.
The visibility has also been improving, and today we could see about 15 metres.
Once again, we split into two teams today: a fun diving team and a Discover Scuba Diving team.
By coincidence, everyone in our fun diving team was visiting from the UK!
It was also a great opportunity for me to hear and use English with native speakers♪
One of our guests was visiting Japan for their honeymoon.
They had originally planned to go to Okinawa, but their plans were affected by the typhoon, so they found our dive shop and came to dive with us instead.
And interestingly, they found out about our shop through AI!
That really feels like something unique to the times we live in.
We were very happy that they chose Kushimoto as an alternative to Okinawa（＾＾）
The Sea in Kushimoto Is Returning to Normal
The swell has calmed down, and the marine life also seems to be gradually returning to its usual routine.
This year, we have been seeing many southern species. Compared with last year, we are also seeing more individuals that are somewhere between the juvenile and adult stages.
Today, we found a large Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus!
Have I ever seen one this size before?
Among the crustaceans, we also found a shrimp hiding on top of the coral that made us wonder, “What is this?”
Its pattern looked a little like Jocaste lucina, but we couldn’t identify it.
I need to buy a shrimp and crab guidebook!
Speaking of crustaceans, the Herlequin shrimp is still doing well.
When we went to see it, it was working hard to carry a starfish.
Looking at the photo, it almost seems to be saying, “This is mine!” haha.
As the visibility improves, it is also becoming easier to enjoy the schools of fish and take photos.
The school of Stripy Butterflyfish, which always seems to handle the swell without any trouble, is getting bigger day by day.
There are also plenty of other subjects that I want to photograph right now, including juvenile Yellowback tubelip and juvenile Ocellate damselfish.
The underwater scenery is starting to look different from last year, and we can really feel the power of the Kuroshio Current.
A Great Season for Diving in Kushimoto
From now until around November, it is one of the best seasons to see a wide variety of marine life, from southern species to temperate species.
The water temperature is currently 27–28°C, so it looks like this year’s wetsuit season could be a long one♪
Tomorrow will be a Discover Scuba Diving day with two teams.
All of our staff will be out introducing potential future divers to the underwater world of Kushimoto.
Even after the Obon holiday, the great season for fun diving, Discover Scuba Diving, and diving courses will continue.
