Discover Scuba Diving in Kushimoto | Enjoying a Summer Dive with a Family from the UK
August started with a full day of Discover Scuba Diving in Kushimoto!
The morning was comfortable, but by midday the summer sun was shining brightly.
Our first guests of the day were a wonderful family from the UK.
They joined us as a large family group, including a father, his daughter, and her husband.
One member of the family was Japanese, and we discovered that we share the exact same birthday! It was the first time I had ever met someone with the same birthday as mine.
We were even born just one year apart and grew up in almost the same area of Japan.
It felt like we could have crossed paths somewhere before.
These unexpected connections are one of the things I love most about meeting people through diving.
The group included both certified divers and complete beginners.
At first, those trying scuba diving for the very first time looked a little nervous.
Fortunately, the experienced family members stayed close and supported them, helping everyone gradually become comfortable underwater.
At the beginning, controlling buoyancy and body position was a challenge, but by the end of the dive everyone was swimming together and enjoying watching the fish as a group.
I was there to help as well, but in the end, family teamwork was the strongest support!
We also swam to the small underwater shrine, where we observed a school of Striped eel catfish and an egg-bearing Slipper lobster. All seven family members successfully completed the dive together and had a fantastic time.
As soon as we got out of the water, everyone shouted, “That was amazing!” Their excitement made me just as happy as they were.
We also spotted Whitetail dascyllus, a fish that always reminds us that summer has truly arrived.
This year, we’re seeing an especially large number of tropical fish species in Kushimoto.
When I told the guests that this species can also be found around Okinawa, they were pleasantly surprised.
I hope they were able to experience one of Kushimoto’s greatest attractions—the chance to see both tropical and temperate marine life in the same area.
Several members of the family will be diving in Okinawa next week, and I hope today’s experience in Kushimoto gives them even more confidence for their next adventure.
Tomorrow we’ll be back out for fun dives.
Kushimoto’s sea is now warm, blue, and entering the best diving season of the year, which usually continues until around October.
We currently have a few openings for fun diving on August 14 and 15.
