Summer diving conditions continue in Kushimoto with 12–15 m visibility and water temperatures around 28°C.
Today’s conditions in Kushimoto remained very comfortable for diving, with visibility of 12–15 meters and water temperatures between 27.9°C and 28.1°C.
A wetsuit is all you need to enjoy the warm summer sea.
A westerly wind picked up in the afternoon, creating some waves on the surface.
However, underwater conditions remained stable.
If you prefer calmer seas, we recommend diving in the morning or on the first afternoon boat.
Our first dive of the day was a private fun dive with a guest from Osaka.
One of the requests was to see the Harlequin Shrimp, so we visited the pair that we are currently observing.
One of the shrimp appears to have some damage on one of its legs.
Hopefully it will recover after its next molt and continue growing healthy.
In the afternoon, we divided into two groups and guided an American family along with a guest who had already joined us for the morning dives.
It was wonderful to see the whole family diving together.
Everyone paired up with their own buddy, and both parents are diving instructors, making the group very organized and comfortable underwater.
It also made me think how nice it would be to dive with my own children someday.
Although we stayed at the same dive site because of the afternoon westerly wind, we were still able to show everyone some of Kushimoto’s seasonal highlights.
The biggest discovery of the day was a Pink Squat Lobster (サクラコシオリエビ).
It was only about 1 cm long, but its beautiful pink color made it stand out. It’s a tiny but very charming animal, and I hope it becomes a regular resident of this site.
When strong westerly winds blow, we often dive at Sanbira, a sheltered dive site protected from the wind.
Sanbira is especially beautiful during summer, with healthy coral reefs and plenty of butterflyfish.
We don’t visit this site very often, but this year we’re seeing more tropical species there, so I’m looking forward to exploring it more frequently.
Tomorrow is Kushimoto’s annual fireworks festival, and August is already here.
We’ll be spending the day introducing new guests to the underwater world through our Discover Scuba Diving program.
August is becoming quite busy, so if you’re planning to visit Kushimoto for fun diving or a Discover Scuba Diving experience, we recommend booking early.
September and October are also excellent months for diving.
The sea is usually less crowded, making it a great season for Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water courses.
