A Guest Enjoyed Their Very First Fun Dive in Kushimoto
Today was another incredible day in Kushimoto! Visibility was outstanding, and in some areas the water temperature reached 28°C (82°F) even at the bottom.
The summer diving conditions just keep getting better.
We were excited to welcome a guest for their very first fun dive in the beautiful Kushimoto Blue.
What a perfect way to begin a fun diving journey! With visibility of around 25 meters (82 ft)—and in some places it felt closer to 30 meters (98 ft)—it was an unforgettable first experience.
From the surface, we could clearly see divers swimming along the seabed.
This is the kind of underwater world waiting for you in Kushimoto, Wakayama, the southernmost town on Japan’s main island.
You can experience tropical-blue water without taking a flight to Okinawa.
While enjoying the crystal-clear water, we also spent plenty of time looking for macro marine life.
Because the water temperature has been especially warm this year, many tropical species are growing quickly.
We have been seeing plenty of large Bicolor angelfish, much more frequently than in previous years.
These colorful angelfish add beautiful splashes of color to the reef.
It is also the spawning season for Japanese spiny lobster.
As the water gets warmer, the eggs develop more quickly, allowing females to produce new egg masses sooner than usual.
Watching them carefully clean their eggs with their rear legs is always fascinating.
After hatching, only a tiny fraction of the larvae survive their long journey in the open ocean and eventually grow into adults.
Nature is truly full of challenges.
Although it feels like midsummer underwater, nudibranchs are still abundant.
We even found Bulbaeolidia alba, a species that is commonly seen during the winter nudibranch season but is less common at this time of year.
Watching it gently wave its rhinophores while moving across the reef was a real treat.
Our long-term resident Yellow mouth moray eel has also become much more active now that the water is warm.
It has been living in the same area for almost two years now. It must really like its home!
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the guest’s daughter was working hard on her PADI Open Water Diver course.
Today, only her father got to experience the stunning Kushimoto Blue, but we hope she will soon earn her certification and enjoy these amazing underwater views herself.
With crystal-clear water, warm temperatures, and schools of fish becoming larger every week, Kushimoto is truly at its best right now.
