Enjoying Fun Diving in Kushimoto with Guests from Austria and Japan
Thanks to the Kuroshio Current that arrived over the weekend, Kushimoto continues to enjoy excellent underwater visibility.
We headed to one of the offshore dive sites in the morning, where incredibly clear water was waiting for us. Visibility was so good that it felt close to 30 meters.
The water temperature was around 24°C in deeper areas, while the upper 15 meters stayed at about 28°C.
Combined with the hot summer weather, it made for very comfortable diving in a wetsuit.
Today, we had an international team consisting of a guest from Austria and one of our Japanese repeat guests.
Our Austrian guest mentioned that they wanted to meet local Japanese people during their trip, so it was wonderful that everyone could dive together and share the experience.
As part of introducing a unique aspect of Japanese diving culture, we spent the day exploring the world of macro diving.
At first, our guest looked surprised, as if thinking, “We’re looking for creatures that small?” By the end of the day, however, they were enthusiastically searching for tiny marine life on their own and discovering the enjoyment of macro diving.
Our first highlight was a tiny Dendrodoris krusensternii measuring only about 1 cm. Its beautiful blue spots made it stand out against the reef.
Another memorable encounter was Christmas tree worm. Our guest loved watching it quickly retract into its tube whenever they moved closer.
Although many divers pass by without noticing them, they make wonderful subjects for close-up underwater photography.
During the final dive, we visited the reliable Harlequin shrimp.
After explaining how it carefully protects and feeds on its sea star, our guest spent quite a while quietly observing its behavior.
We hope this shrimp continues to thrive in Kushimoto and contributes to future generations here.
Just before finishing the last dive, we also found a rare Dragon wrasse.
This juvenile fish is one of the seasonal signs of summer in Kushimoto as the water becomes warmer.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to observe it closely, so we’ll definitely be looking for it again on our next dives.
There are only a few days left in July.
As we move into August, fish life will continue to increase, making Kushimoto’s underwater world even more exciting.
From now through October and November, Kushimoto enters one of its best diving seasons.
This year, water temperatures have remained especially warm, so comfortable wetsuit diving is expected to continue for quite some time.
Although several dates during the Obon holiday period are already fully booked, we still have availability on some days.
