A Long-Awaited Return to the Ocean and Another Great Day Exploring Kushimoto
The three-day holiday weekend has come to an end, and we couldn’t have asked for better diving conditions.
Warm water, calm seas, and beautiful weather made it a fantastic weekend for everyone who joined us.
Today, we enjoyed fun diving in the morning and Discover Scuba Diving in the afternoon.
Our afternoon guest had actually planned to dive with us last year, but unfortunately the trip had to be cancelled because of rough sea conditions.
This year, everything came together perfectly.
With flat seas and clear skies, we were finally able to welcome them into the ocean for their long-awaited first dive in Kushimoto.
They quickly became comfortable underwater and were soon enjoying the experience with plenty of smiles.
There was even time to pose for photos while exploring the underwater world.
Hearing them say, “I want to dive again!” made our day.
We hope this experience is the beginning of many more diving adventures.
Our certified divers headed to Kushimoto’s offshore dive sites for the first time in a while.
The current at the first site was stronger than expected, so we changed our dive plan for safety.
Even so, visibility was excellent, schools of fish filled the reef, and everyone enjoyed the dynamic underwater scenery that Kushimoto is famous for.
The second dive offered slightly lower visibility, but the abundance of macro life more than made up for it.
Whether you enjoy wide-angle scenery or searching for tiny marine creatures, Kushimoto offers both on the same day.
One highlight was finding Bodianus dictynna.
We’ve been seeing this juvenile more frequently this summer, and it reminds us how much warm water the Kuroshio Current has been bringing to Kushimoto.
As summer turns into autumn, even more tropical fish are expected to arrive with the current, making September and October some of the most exciting months of the diving season.
One of today’s guests also had a special underwater encounter.
They finally found Bornella anguilla, a nudibranch well known among divers for its unique swimming behavior.
It had been on their wish list for a long time, so seeing it at last made the dive even more memorable.
Moments like these are what make every dive different.
The ocean has now fully recovered from the recent typhoon, and Kushimoto is returning to its best summer conditions.
From colorful coral reefs and schools of fish to fascinating macro life, the variety of marine life continues to grow as warm water flows in with the Kuroshio Current.
Another unique feature of Kushimoto is that the western and eastern sides of the peninsula offer completely different underwater environments.
Combined with river diving to see the Japanese Giant Salamander, there are countless ways to enjoy nature here.

August through October is the peak diving season in Kushimoto, and we’re already receiving many bookings for September.
