Fun Diving in Kushimoto | Enjoying Everything from Wide-Angle Scenery to Macro Marine Life

Enjoying Japan’s Southernmost Dive Destination on Honshu with Our Guest from France

After several cloudy days, the sun finally returned to Kushimoto today. The water temperature is now approaching 25°C, making it very comfortable to dive in a wetsuit.

Today, we had the pleasure of guiding a guest from France on two fun dives.

It was their very first time diving in Japan, so we wanted to introduce the best of Kushimoto by showing both its impressive wide-angle scenery and its fascinating macro marine life.

Our guest especially enjoyed taking a photo with a school of Striped Butterflyfish (Microcanthus strigatus).

Although the visibility wasn’t as good as we had hoped, it still became a wonderful memory from their trip to Japan.

During the dives, we also encountered a Long tooth grouper, Bigfin Reef Squid, and Big Blue Octopus, giving our guest a great introduction to Kushimoto’s rich underwater environment.

Of course, we also spent time looking for smaller marine life.

One of the highlights was Hypselodoris festiva, one of the nudibranch species commonly seen around Honshu. We also found several Common ghostgobies, which are especially abundant at this time of year.

Our resident Harlequin Shrimp were still in the same place as well. Watching the pair carrying a large sea star is always one of the highlights for underwater photographers.

By the end of the two dives, our guest had enjoyed everything from wide-angle diving to macro photography and told us they felt relaxed underwater and had a fantastic time.

Hearing guests say they truly enjoyed their dives is always the most rewarding part of being a dive guide.

We hope every visitor who travels all the way to Kushimoto leaves with unforgettable memories of diving in Japan.

Located at the southern tip of Japan’s main island of Honshu, Kushimoto is blessed by the warm Kuroshio Current and offers incredible diving throughout the year.

At Aqua Vista Kushimoto, we guide divers in small groups so everyone can enjoy the ocean at their own pace, whether it’s their first time diving in Japan or they have many dives around the world.

If you’re planning a trip to Wakayama or visiting the Kumano Kodo, we’d love to welcome you for an unforgettable diving experience in Kushimoto.
