Kushimoto Scuba Diving with Macro Photography Fun dive with Guests from Denmark

Kushimoto Scuba Diving with Macro Photography & Calm Ocean Conditions

If you are looking for a scuba diving destination in Japan that combines calm ocean conditions, rich marine life, and relaxed diving style, Kushimoto is a place worth discovering.

Located on the southern coast of Wakayama, Kushimoto offers stable diving conditions throughout much of the year, making it ideal for both beginner divers and underwater photography enthusiasts.

One of the diving styles you can enjoy here is slow, relaxed diving focused on observing marine life, and macro photography is naturally part of that experience rather than the main focus.

Just a short distance from the bay, visibility often improves, and water temperature continues to rise toward 25°C, creating comfortable diving conditions.

Today, we enjoyed a fun diving experience in Kushimoto with guests from Denmark, continuing from their previous day of diving.

They brought a TG-7 camera, so the dive focused on exploring and photographing small marine life in detail.

Japanese diving culture is often characterized by slow-paced diving, where divers take time to carefully observe the underwater environment.
Our guests enjoyed this style of diving in Japan, experiencing a completely different rhythm from fast-paced diving destinations.

Exploring Macro Marine Life in Kushimoto

With only one dive today, we focused on a variety of small marine creatures, with crustaceans becoming the main highlight.

One of the species we encountered was Pseudocryptochirus viridis.

Although very small, it is a fascinating subject for macro photography.
When using microscope mode or a DSLR camera, its fine textures become clearly visible.

Another shrimp species commonly found in Kushimoto is often overlooked, but it becomes very photogenic when properly lit.
The gradient colors on its claws can be beautifully captured depending on the angle and lighting.

Controlling strobes and light intensity is essential to bring out these subtle color transitions in underwater photography.

We also offer rental cameras, making it easy for beginners to try underwater photography in Kushimoto.

The Smiling Minami-ginpo

Just before ending the dive, we encountered a  that appeared to be smiling at us.

This “smiling expression” is one of the iconic moments divers love in Kushimoto.

However, this expression only appears from a specific angle, so positioning and approach technique are very important for capturing it.

Learning how to approach marine life is a key step in improving underwater photography skills.

Best Time for Relaxed Diving in Japan

If you want to practice underwater photography or simply enjoy relaxed diving, weekday diving is highly recommended.

The ocean is usually less crowded, allowing for a slower and more focused diving experience.

As the summer diving season approaches, we still have availability on selected weekdays.

If you are planning a scuba diving trip to Japan, Kushimoto is an excellent destination for calm and relaxed diving experiences.

Growing International Diving Destination in Japan

Following our guests from Denmark, we will also be diving with international visitors again tomorrow.

More divers from around the world are discovering Kushimoto, and the area is gradually becoming recognized as an international scuba diving destination in Japan.

We warmly welcome both Japanese and overseas divers.
