What?! Flat Calm?! The Forecast Was Completely Wrong!
The first weekend of September was forecast to bring very rough conditions due to Typhoon No. 24 and the autumn rain front.
But when we arrived at the sea this morning, it was completely flat and calm?!
The wind started to pick up in the afternoon, but the sea remained calm throughout the day. (^^;)
Maybe it was the calm before the storm…???
The sea in Kushimoto was surprisingly calm today, and the water temperature remained at around 28°C.
Visibility dropped a little due to the rain, but the conditions were still comfortable for diving.
Today, we went fun diving with a guest who had never seen Harlequin Shrimp before.
They had not been lucky enough to encounter one in other diving areas either.
But today, they finally had the chance to take their time and observe one of Kushimoto’s very friendly Harlequin Shrimp♪
The Harlequin Shrimp is still staying in the same place, holding tightly onto a starfish!!
We have had many typhoons this year, so I have been worried that it might disappear at any time.
But it has already made it through three typhoons.
Nearby, there are also three Regal angelfish, a Purple-mask Angelfish, and many other rare species.
However, they are all very shy and do not make photography easy…
Patience is important when photographing them, so if you would like to take your time with underwater photography, we recommend visiting on a quieter weekday.
In between, we also searched for Nudibranch with our guest, who loves them.
The swell increased a little, and I felt that there were fewer species moving around on the rocks compared with yesterday.
Even so, we can still observe many different species.
This summer, we have also been seeing Sagaminopteron psychedelicum at the beach.
It seems to be a particularly good year for them, and I feel like we have been seeing them almost every day.
Another species we have been seeing frequently is Bornella anguilla.
It is known as a swimming Nudibranch and has very cute, round eyes.
If you get the angle just right, you can photograph its face from the front.
I personally love this innocent-looking face.
There are also many other macro subjects in Kushimoto right now, including fish in beautiful backgrounds that are perfect for underwater photography.
Autumn is the season when underwater life becomes most abundant and active, and I really recommend diving in Kushimoto at this time of year.
Not only boat fun diving, but beach diving is also great for observing Nudibranch and many different kinds of fish!!
Kushimoto is right in the middle of its best diving season, so come and enjoy diving with us!!
