Enjoying Kushimoto's Coral Gardens in Calm Morning Seas
Another beautiful day in Kushimoto with perfectly calm seas!
Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy with occasional rain, but there was no wind or waves, making for a very comfortable dive.
One interesting thing about Kushimoto is that the sea is often calm the day before it rains or even on rainy days.
So don't miss out on diving just because the forecast says rain!
This morning, we went fun diving at a beach dive site known for its beautiful coral gardens, one of Kushimoto's natural treasures!
The dense colonies of Acropora hyacinthus.
I even feel they might be among the best on Japan's main island of Honshu.
Surprisingly, not many people know about this amazing place!
I really want more divers to discover just how spectacular the coral gardens at Kushimoto's beach dive sites can be.
On sunny days, beautiful rays of sunlight shine through the water, creating an incredible underwater scene♪
The water is also shallow, making this a wonderful spot to take your time enjoying underwater photography.
Cute Marine Life Hiding Among the Corals
If you look closely between the coral branches, you'll find some adorable little creatures hiding there.
Coral gardens provide excellent shelter for fish, so many different marine creatures call these places home.
Today, I spotted a Leopard blenny for the first time in ages!!!
Today's dive was mainly focused on exploring the coral gardens, but I got so excited that I immediately called my guest over to see it! Haha!
There was just one problem...
The fish was surrounded by coral!
Good buoyancy control was essential to photograph it without touching the coral, so it turned out to be a little challenging for my guest (^^;)
We haven't seen many juvenile yellow boxfish at the boat dive sites this year, but there have been plenty at the beach sites.
They've grown since summer and are now a little easier to spot and photograph♪
Their tiny puckered mouths are absolutely adorable!
If you find one, I definitely recommend trying to get a photo of its face from the front.
Kushimoto's Corals Growing Strong After the Typhoon
With the Kuroshio Current's large meander now over, Kushimoto's waters are gradually returning to warmer conditions.
And as if the corals can feel the change, small new colonies are growing in many places.
In the background of this photo, you can see an area where coral used to grow.
And now, new life is growing on top of it.
This year's typhoons caused some damage, including large coral colonies being overturned along with the rocks they were attached to.
But even those overturned corals are still surviving where they fell.
Seeing scenes like this really reminds me just how resilient marine life can be!
On Wednesday, the water near the surface was still quite murky, but visibility had improved significantly by today.
I didn't visit the boat dive sites today, but I have a feeling that conditions are gradually improving throughout the area.
