Another Rare Marine Creature Spotted in Kushimoto Today!
We had strong easterly winds today, but the weather was fantastic♪
The water was a little hazy, but there was no swell, so underwater conditions were comfortable (^^)
Today, we split into two teams: one started with a refresher beach dive, while the other enjoyed fun diving from the boat!
And we're continuing to find more and more rare marine creatures at our boat diving sites!
A Rare Sea-moth Appeared!
Thanks to information from Akashachi Diving Service, we were able to find a Sea-moth today!
It had been a while since we'd last seen one♪
We find them somewhere around Kushimoto every year, but they're incredibly good at camouflage, which makes them quite difficult to spot!
A big thank you to Haruna-san for sharing the information with us (TT)
Tiny Juvenile Fish at Ando-no-Hana
Ando-no-Hana, which closes tomorrow, has been full of interesting discoveries just before the end of its opening season (^^;)
First, we found a tiny juvenile Long-nose sea horse, about the size of a toothpick!
It was so small that even the branch beside it looked huge.
Luckily, it was twisting its body, which made it easier to spot!
Its long, slender body and big, round eyes are absolutely adorable.
We also went to check on the juvenile Harlequin sweetlips that we introduced in a previous blog post.
It had been a while since our last visit, and we were surprised to see that it had grown to about twice its previous size!
Fish really do grow quickly (^^;)
An Incredible Feeding Scene Underwater
While moving between areas, we came across a Triton's trumpet feeding on a sea cucumber.
We could see the sea cucumber's internal organs attached to the shell.
It looked like quite a struggle had taken place, reminding us of the realities of life in the ocean.
Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to watch the entire feeding process, but the Triton's trumpet probably finished eating the sea cucumber afterward.
More Nudibranchs and Tropical Visitors!
We're also starting to see more and more nudibranchs!
Today, we found a tiny Tenellia sp.13, measuring approximately 5 mm.
The beautiful color gradient at the tips of its cerata was especially impressive.
Just before exiting the water, we discovered another Amblyeleotris guttat!
This year, many southern species have been arriving in Kushimoto with the Kuroshio Current!
The season for these tropical visitors should continue until around next month, so we're looking forward to discovering even more new marine life!
Autumn Is a Great Season for Macro Diving in Kushimoto!
Tomorrow, we'll split into two teams again: a refresher diving team and an underwater photography fun diving team.
It will be the final day of the season at Ando-no-Hana, so we'll definitely be heading there again!
Although we're already in the second half of October, many divers are still using wetsuits, and underwater conditions remain comfortable.
As long as you have a boat coat or other warm clothing to wear between dives, you'll be fine on the boat!
We still have availability on some weekdays in late October and November!
With so many interesting marine creatures appearing, it's a fantastic time to enjoy diving in Kushimoto.
Come and explore the amazing underwater world of Kushimoto with us!
See you underwater!
