Enjoying Both Offshore and Local Dive Sites in Kushimoto!
Today, our teams split up for diving in Kushimoto and Koza. We also had a night dive yesterday, so we weren’t able to update the blog!
Our Kushimoto team started the day at an offshore dive site.
With the Kuroshio Current moving closer to Kushimoto, the current was strong offshore, which limited the sites we could dive.
However, the water temperature was over 28°C, the visibility was great, and there were plenty of fish. The conditions were fantastic! (^^)
On our first dive, we encountered a huge school of Chicken Grunt!
There were so many of them, and it was an impressive sight♪
We also saw a large school of Pygmy sweeper, which become more abundant during summer.
It was a great chance to enjoy the dense schools of fish at Kushimoto’s offshore dive sites. (^^)
It was a one-on-one dive in the morning, so our guest spent quite a while with the Pygmy sweeper, practicing wide-angle photography!
Nitrox really came in handy for that.
From the second dive, there was some swell coming in from offshore, so we moved to the local dive sites and enjoyed a more relaxed dive.
In the afternoon, a family visiting from Hawaii joined us, and we headed out for fun diving as an international team.
Their daughter speaks fluent Japanese!!
She told us, “I want to see Nudibranch,” so we went searching for them and showed her several tiny Nudibranch.
But apparently, they were a little too tiny! (^^;)
Sometimes Japanese-sized Nudibranch just aren’t quite worldwide-sized!
Today, we found three Tenellia sp.10 together in one place!!
It really feels like we have had a lot of Nudibranch this year.
Just before exiting on our final dive, we encountered a giant 40 cm Spanish dancer.
Its body was huge, and there were many Emperor shrimp living on it.
This individual has been wandering around Sumisaki for a while now.
Where will we find it next time??
Now that the Obon holiday period is over, we are starting to see more and more southern species.
Juvenile Butterflyfish, Damselfish, and other southern species are increasing, making the underwater scenery even more lively.
With the influence of the Kuroshio Current this year, we have a feeling that the best diving season could continue until around November.
We recently had cancellations for September 20 and 21 during Silver Week, so we currently have availability for boat fun diving on those dates.
