Kushimoto Blue Has Arrived! Fun Boat Diving in 20m Visibility
It felt like the middle of summer in Kushimoto today.
We headed out for a fun boat dive with guests from the Kanto region of Japan and a guest from Canada, who was visiting Japan for the fourth time!
It was a truly international group, and we enjoyed another fantastic day in Kushimoto’s warm, beautiful waters.
On our first dive, we found an Spotted burrfish that had lost sight in one eye.
At first, I wondered why it didn’t swim away when we got close. Then I realized its right eye was injured.
Even so, it was doing its best to survive. I hope it continues to thrive.
The highlight of the day was definitely this!
Although the surface was a little choppy and the photo came out slightly blurry, the clear blue water brought in by the Kuroshio Current arrived in the afternoon!
The visibility was so good that we could clearly see a diver at 18 meters from the surface.
Kushimoto Blue has finally arrived just before the holiday weekend!
Diving in such crystal-clear blue water is one of the greatest gifts of the Kuroshio Current.
Located at the southern tip of Japan’s main island, Kushimoto is influenced by this warm current, bringing excellent visibility and rich marine life during the summer months.
Swimming alongside schools of Striped Butterflyfish in the blue water made for a perfect summer scene.
This is exactly what summer diving in Kushimoto is all about.
I hope many divers will have the chance to enjoy these beautiful blue conditions in the coming days.
For our final dive, we focused on macro life.
We checked on the juvenile Longnose Hawkfish , which we hadn’t seen since the typhoon.
We were relieved to find it still there!
I’ve always wondered how such a tiny fish survives powerful swells like that.
It’s probably impossible to know for sure, but I’d love to set up an underwater camera someday and see how marine life behaves during rough conditions.
Kushimoto is also well known for its incredible variety of small fish and crustaceans.
It’s a fantastic destination for underwater photographers and anyone who enjoys macro diving.
Today we also found a juvenile Calvactaea tumida.
It was only about the size of a one-yen coin.
They’re adorable little crabs, but they’re excellent at hiding, so they’re never easy to find.
Their round shape and colorful appearance make them a favorite among macro divers.
It was another wonderful day enjoying everything from wide-angle scenery to tiny macro creatures.
Tomorrow will be a special day for us as we’ll be guiding dives in both the Kushimoto and Sue areas at the same time for the first time since opening our shop.
Summer is one of the best seasons to dive in Kushimoto, and the visibility is getting better and better.
Whether you enjoy wide-angle diving or macro photography, this is a great time to experience Kushimoto’s underwater world.
