Fun Diving in Kushimoto | Calm Seas, Great Visibility, and More Juvenile Fish

Enjoying Macro Diving in Calm Conditions

The forecast had predicted stronger winds and rougher sea conditions later in the day, but fortunately, the weather turned out much better than expected. We were able to enjoy fun diving in calm conditions throughout the day in Kushimoto.

Visibility remained excellent at 15–20 meters, and the water temperature reached 24°C. Conditions have become very comfortable for diving in a wetsuit.

Although it was a weekend, the less favorable forecast meant there were fewer divers than usual. As a result, we enjoyed a relaxed day of macro diving with a small group, taking plenty of time for underwater photography and marine life observation.

As summer approaches, more juvenile fish are beginning to appear around Kushimoto. Today, we found a friendly juvenile  Paracentropyge venustaand a juvenile One-striped anthias, both excellent subjects for underwater photography.

This is also the peak season for fish breeding activity. Many damselfish and blennies can currently be seen guarding their eggs around the reefs.

Today, we observed a Meiacanthus kamoharai protecting its eggs inside a small hole. With careful lighting and patience, it is possible to capture unique images of this fascinating behavior.

We have also started seeing increasing numbers of baby Painted sweetlips At only around 1 cm in length, these tiny juveniles are still mostly transparent and make wonderful photography subjects for macro enthusiasts.

As the influence of the Kuroshio Current continues, we expect to see even more juvenile fish and seasonal visitors arriving in Kushimoto over the coming weeks.

Summer is one of the best seasons to experience Kushimoto’s underwater world. The number of fish continues to increase, and the reefs become more vibrant every day.

At Aqua Vista Kushimoto, we offer small-group guided diving to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience underwater. Whether you are looking for fun diving, a refresher dive, or your first diving experience in Japan, we would be happy to welcome you.

We look forward to diving with you in Kushimoto!
