Diving in Kushimoto with Guests from Canada
We enjoyed a beautiful break in the rainy season weather today and headed out for a Refresh Diving Course followed by a boat dive in Kushimoto.
Although there was some swell in the area this morning, conditions were still comfortable for diving.
Today’s guests were a couple visiting from Canada.
For the first dive, we started with a refresh dive from the beach.
Since they regularly go snorkeling, they were very comfortable in the water and quickly regained their diving skills.
During the beach dive, they were amazed by the amount of marine life and told us they never expected to see so many fish so close to shore.
For the second dive, we boarded a boat and explored one of Kushimoto’s popular dive sites.
Soon after entering the water, we found a Peacock mantis shrimp.
It was the first one we had seen since the recent typhoon.
It appeared that it had not yet rebuilt its burrow and was still looking for a suitable place to settle.
Later in the dive, we observed an interesting scene involving two Spotfin burrfish.
The two fish stayed very close together and spent a long time swimming side by side.
At times, they also appeared to be chasing another individual.
We have seen similar behavior before, but we cannot say for certain whether it was related to courtship or spawning activity.
Whatever the reason, it was fascinating to watch.
The two fish eventually disappeared together into the blue water, leaving us wondering what they were up to.
This is also the season when divers can observe egg-bearing Spiny lobster.
If you look carefully into rocky crevices, you may spot females carrying eggs beneath their bodies.
Sometimes you can even see them cleaning and caring for the eggs with their rear legs.
With summer-like temperatures continuing, we will be heading out for another refresh diving course tomorrow.
As the main diving season approaches, we are receiving more inquiries from divers who have not been underwater for a while.
If it has been some time since your last dive, a refresh course is a great way to rebuild confidence and enjoy Kushimoto’s underwater world safely.
We still have availability on weekdays from late June through early July.
Whether you are interested in fun diving, a refresh course, or trying scuba diving for the first time, we would be happy to welcome you to Kushimoto.
We look forward to diving with you! 🤿🌊
