Fun Diving with Guests from Japan and Taiwan
Today, we went fun diving in Kushimoto with a small team made up of returning guests from yesterday and guests visiting from Taiwan.
Since the beginning of this week, the ocean conditions in Kushimoto have been incredibly calm, giving us excellent diving conditions day after day.
On the macro side, nudibranchs were everywhere again today.
Thecacera pacifica had been less common during winter, but recently we have started seeing more tiny individuals again. These very small ones are often called “mini Pikachu” by local divers.
We were happy to find them again today following yesterday’s dive, and it feels like more may start appearing over the coming weeks.

We also found Colpodaspis thompsoni today.
For some reason, this species always makes us feel that nudibranch season has truly arrived in Kushimoto.
If May really is nudibranch season, that is definitely great news for wetsuit divers who love macro photography.

Wide-angle diving was also fantastic today.
The Big-fin reef squid spawning activity continues to be very active, and we were able to confirm around four pairs laying eggs during the dive.
Right beside the spawning squid, an Hrmitriakis japanica was slowly swimming around, giving us an incredibly lucky moment where we could watch both squid and a shark together in the same scene.

After the shark encounter, we also met a sea turtle.
One of our guests was unfortunately unable to take photos of the turtle yesterday, so we were very happy that today they had plenty of time to photograph it properly.

To finish the day, we even witnessed a meter-class Seriola rivoliana attacking a school of Chicken Grunt.
It was an exciting ending to an amazing day of diving.
Right now, Kushimoto’s ocean has incredible potential, with macro subjects, wide-angle scenes, and large fish all being seen on the same dives.
This is truly one of the best seasons to enjoy the diversity of marine life in Kushimoto.
We would love for everyone to come and experience it for themselves.
Tomorrow is finally the annual “Kushimoto Diving Festival.”
Many major diving equipment manufacturers will gather in Kushimoto, and divers will have the opportunity to test the latest gear during this special event.
We are also looking forward to trying various equipment together with our guests over the next two days.
See you tomorrow!
