Fun Diving in Kushimoto with a Fresh Perspective

Visibility and Water Temperature Are Improving♪

Although the east wind was still strong today, we had sunny weather, better visibility, and water temperatures rising above 23°C. Conditions in Kushimoto just keep getting better♪

Today, we enjoyed fun diving with one of our repeat guests and their friend.

It was the first time visiting Kushimoto for one of the guests, who recently moved from Okinawa and was experiencing diving in the Kansai area for the very first time.

We were happy to introduce the unique underwater world that makes Kushimoto so special!!!

During the dives, we talked about how some fish that are very common in Okinawa can actually be rare in Kushimoto — and vice versa. Even species that are common in Kushimoto may be considered rare in Okinawa.

It gave us a fresh perspective while enjoying fun diving together(^^)

On the first dive, we observed the seasonal spawning behavior of Big-fin Reef squid.

Both guests were amazed by their impressive size♪

We were even able to see pairs swimming very close to us, and it was great to introduce one of the highlights of Kushimoto at this time of year(^^)

Another thing that makes Kushimoto special is how close you can get to the fish. A perfect example is the Jawfish.

For divers who usually dive in Kushimoto, this may feel normal, but Jawfish are actually fish that are usually difficult to approach closely in many other areas.

Being able to observe Jawfish from almost zero distance is one of Kushimoto’s unique attractions.

When I pointed one out to the guest, they slowly and carefully approached it from a long distance away. Watching that made me realize again that this is probably the “proper” way to approach Jawfish(^^)

As the water temperature rises above 23°C, the breeding and behavioral activity of many marine creatures is becoming more active.

Ostorhinchus aureus are now carrying larger amounts of eggs in their mouths, and more individuals can no longer fully close their mouths because of the eggs.

If you would like to photograph mouthbrooding behavior, now is a great time to visit♪

On the second dive, we continued observing many kinds of marine life and enjoyed another relaxing fun dive together♪

This photo with Ostorhinchus aureus may also show one of Kushimoto’s characteristics — the close distance between divers and fish.

We will continue fun diving again tomorrow.

From tomorrow, both overseas guests and Japanese guests will be visiting us one after another.

Whether you are visiting Japan from overseas or already living in Japan, inquiries for fun diving and introductory diving are always welcome♪

As more divers are starting to switch to wetsuits, now is a great season to enjoy the warming ocean of Kushimoto.

See you then!
