Morning Research Dive Before Golden Week
This morning, I went for a research dive in Kushimoto.
It’s the weekday just before Golden Week, and we had another sunny day like yesterday. It was actually warm enough to feel a bit hot in a drysuit.
But somehow, on days with such nice weather… no guests! Why does this always happen? (^^;)
Preparing for the Summer Season
So today, I used the quiet morning for a research dive.
From this summer, my wife will be returning as a dive guide. This dive was also a practice session for that.
We may have more days with two guides during the summer season. Step by step, we’re planning to grow our dive operation this year.
Excellent Underwater Conditions in Kushimoto
Underwater conditions were excellent today.
Water temperature was over 22°C, and visibility was around 15 meters.
“Pikachu” Nudibranch is Coming Back
In deeper areas, we are seeing more of the popular “Pikachu” nudibranch, again.
Recently, their numbers had dropped significantly, but it looks like they are starting to come back.
I’m hoping we’ll be able to see more of them during Golden Week.

Unexpected Discovery – Frogfish and Nudibranch
We also revisited a frogfish we found during a previous nudibranch safari dive.
At first, I thought it might be Antennatus coccineus , but it turns out to be Antennarius striatus!

And interestingly… it looked like it was crushing a nudibranch?
Or maybe the nudibranch had crawled underneath it?
The fact that I immediately noticed the nudibranch might just be an occupational habit (laugh).
Limited-Time: Underwater Carp Streamers
And about the underwater carp streamers I mentioned yesterday.
They will be installed until May 5.

If you join a boat dive during Golden Week, you’ll be able to see these unique underwater decorations.
It’s a limited-time view, so don’t miss the chance to experience “underwater koinobori” in Kushimoto.
Golden Week Availability
The weather is expected to stay warm during Golden Week.
If you haven’t made your plans yet, feel free to contact us anytime.
We still have some availability, especially in the later part of the holiday period.
Kushimoto Diving Festival – May 16 & 17
Lastly, an event announcement.
The Kushimoto Diving Festival will be held on May 16 and 17.
This is a special annual event organized in collaboration with local dive operators and major equipment manufacturers.
You can actually try various diving gear in real ocean conditions.
Have you ever struggled to decide just by looking at display items?
The best way is to try them in the water, get explanations, and choose gear that truly suits you.
This is a great opportunity to do exactly that.
There are still a few spots available for each day, so if you’re interested, please get in touch.
We look forward to seeing you in Kushimoto!
