Squid Spawning Beds Installed Yesterda
Yesterday, I visited a hydroelectric power plant for work.
It was my first time inside one, and I was really excited.
Today, I came back to Kushimoto and did a beach survey dive.
There was a slight swell from a distant typhoon, but the beach was still beautiful, and we explored several areas.
In one spot, we found a nice seagrass bed.
There, I discovered Syngnathoides biaculeatus .

It seemed to be searching for a comfortable place and kept moving around, making it quite difficult to photograph.
Later, I also found Hapalochlaena fasciata.

It has beautiful blue ring patterns, but it is highly venomous, so please be careful.
It is a very dangerous octopus if bitten, so take extra care when taking photos.
Although in most cases, they will swim away quickly.
At the end of the dive, we spent some time looking for nudibranchs.
Recently, I often see Goniobranchus setoensis at this beach.
I feel like I’m starting to recognize the type of rocks where they are likely to be found.

Lastly, we found Thuridilla vataae.
They are very small, around 3mm, so they can be quite challenging to find, but they are often attached to rock surfaces.
When the swell is strong, they tend to stay inside small crevices, which makes searching more difficult.
But the moment you find one is always special.

Yesterday, squid spawning beds were installed in the Kushimoto area.
Since the spawning season started early this year, we may see squid coming to lay eggs soon.

This is a great opportunity to observe and photograph large squid up close.
Both macro life and squid spawning are now in season.
If you are interested, please come and dive with us in Kushimoto.
Tomorrow, I plan to visit tide pools for a survey ahead of next Sunday.
From Saturday, we have a full schedule including nudibranch dives, Open Water courses, and fun dives.
Some days may have unstable weather, but we will continue to explore the best conditions so everyone can enjoy their dives.
We currently have plenty of availability from April 26 to May 1.
It’s a perfect time to enjoy relaxed diving with fewer people.
We look forward to welcoming you.
