A Relaxed Day in Kushimoto with a Family from France
We had a lovely day in Kushimoto with calm ocean conditions continuing over the past few days.
Today, a family visiting Japan from France joined us.
The husband went diving, while his wife and son enjoyed snorkeling on their own.
I guided the dive while they spent a relaxing time by the beach.
Originally, diving wasn’t part of their plan, but they decided to add it during their trip.
We’re really happy they chose Kushimoto.
At our first dive site, the water temperature reached around 20°C.
It still varies depending on the location, but overall, it’s slowly getting warmer.
Underwater, he looked completely immersed, carefully observing different fish and marine life.
He mentioned that he usually dives during his son’s long holidays, so it had been a while since his last dive.
It was great to see him enjoying it so much.

For macro, we introduced some sea slugs and crustaceans.
We also found Sponge crab, a crab that carries pieces of sponge on its back for camouflage.
It’s very clever, but once it senses danger, it starts moving, making it easy to spot.

Next was Lissoporcellana nakasonei, which was carrying eggs.
It often hides in soft corals and looks like a crab, but it actually belongs to a different group.

Finally, we saw Verconia purpurea , which becomes more common in spring and is often found crawling on seaweed.

Also, we have some good news.
We’ve recently added a roof between the restroom/shower building and the rest area.

Now you can move around comfortably even on rainy days.
The stairs to the second floor are also covered, making access much easier.

If you’re visiting Kushimoto, we hope you’ll come and experience the ocean with us.
