First Dry Suit Experience in Kushimoto

First Dry Suit Experience & 1cm Yellow boxfish Juvenile

Today, we went for 1 beach dive and 1 boat dive in Kushimoto with a guest visiting from Mexico.

The forecast said rough conditions, but the ocean was surprisingly calm in the morning.

We adjusted the schedule and completed both dives before the weather changed.

It was the guest’s first time diving in Japan and also their first experience using a dry suit.

We started with a beach dive to practice dry suit skills. After getting comfortable, we continued with a fun dive.

During the beach dive, we found some very small Goniobranchus fidelis.

They were quite tiny, so it was a bit difficult to point them out underwater—but that’s part of the fun of macro diving in Japan.

On the second dive from the boat, we introduced Tiger Moray eel.

It is a common species in Kushimoto, but for international divers, it often becomes a highlight as something unique to Japan.

The biggest highlight of the day was a tiny 1cm Yellow Boxfish juvenile.

It was our first one of this size this year, and both the guest and I were very excited to find it.

We also spotted a few more small  Trapania brunnea during the boat dive, and then wrapped up the day.

By the time we finished, the weather had turned stormy, so we were very lucky to dive in the morning.

Spring weather in Kushimoto can change quickly, but mornings are often still diveable like today.

Golden Week is coming soon.

If you are planning your trip to Japan, come and enjoy diving in Kushimoto, influenced by the warm Kuroshio Current.

From beginner-friendly experience dives to fun dives, everyone is welcome.
