Fun Diving with a Guest from the UK

2 Sea Turtles Encounter in Kushimoto

Today, we went fun diving in Kushimoto with a guest visiting from the UK.

It was their first time diving in Japan, so I felt a bit of responsibility as a guide.

But we successfully achieved their request!

They mentioned, “I’d love to see sea turtles if possible,” so for the first dive of the day, we went searching for them.

During winter, we usually focus more on Nudibranchs, so it had been a while since the last turtle search.

We only had some data from last autumn, so I wasn’t completely sure if we would find them…

But in the end — we found two green sea turtles!

The first one quickly swam away, but the second turtle we found right after was very calm and friendly.

We even had time to take some photos together.

In Kushimoto, sea turtles are often resting rather than swimming actively.

So sometimes it can be a bit different from what guests imagine.

Many people picture turtles swimming gracefully, so it’s understandable!

Interestingly, I often feel that international guests are quite lucky.

Somehow, the things they hope to see often appear during the dive.

It’s one of those small mysteries I’ve noticed while diving with guests from overseas.

Of course, we saw many other things too, but today I wanted to focus on our turtle encounters.

Tomorrow, I will be diving with another guest from the UK.

However, the sea conditions look a bit uncertain…

Fingers crossed we can go diving!
