Macro-focused Diving in Kushimoto!

The weather was perfect, and the sea was incredibly calm—a truly magnificent day for diving!

Today’s focus was all about “macro” life across two boat dives.
Although I didn’t set out specifically to find nudibranchs, they just kept catching my eye! (lol)

Perhaps due to the recent rough weather, I noticed a lot of nudibranchs on the move.
First up, I spotted Phestilla melanobrachia! They are usually found clinging to Tubastraea coccinea, so it’s quite rare to see their entire body out in the open like this.

Before reaching that spot, we visited the “crime scene” where I was previously bitten by a moray eel. I’m happy to report a safe return today… though there were still a few of them lurking… (sweat).

At that same site, you can find Pink Squat lobster.

On the first dive, we covered a wide area of the dive site. I went looking for the pink Hairy frogfish I introduced before, but unfortunately, it seems to have moved on. However, we found plenty of nudibranchs to make up for it!

From nudibranchs with master-class camouflage to Sakuraeolis sakuracea, the variety was amazing.
When the water temperature hovers around 20°C, Some spices of nudis become much more active.

We wrapped up with Trimma anaima, known for the beautiful “eyeshadow” above its eyes.

While they are usually shy and quick to hide, this particular individual was very bold. It’s the kind of goby you can capture beautifully even with a compact camera if you approach slowly and steadily.

As we head toward summer, the variety and activity of fish will only increase. With water temperatures rising earlier than usual this year, I expect more divers will be opting for wetsuits by Golden Week (GW).

Speaking of which, GW is just over a month away! If you haven’t made your plans yet, come diving with us in Kushimoto!

We are now accepting reservations for GW! Please feel free to contact us for advice on suit selection or any other questions.

See you soon!
