The ocean in Kushimoto is finally warming up, and it already feels like spring both above and below the water.
Air temperatures are rising, and during the daytime, it’s almost warm enough for short sleeves.
The water temperature has reached around 20°C at some dive sites, creating very comfortable conditions.
With a dry suit, you won’t feel cold at all.
Today, we enjoyed three boat fun dives in the Kushimoto area with returning guests.
As the season changes, we are starting to see more Verconia purpurea , which are a great sign of spring underwater.
Compared to last year, they seem to be appearing a bit earlier, possibly due to the faster increase in water temperature.
We also encountered Japanese inflator filefish for the first time in a while.
Perhaps we were too focused on searching for Nudibranchs recently!
As water temperatures rise, marine life becomes more active.
Many fish are now swimming in mid-water and feeding actively, and some species are even showing mating behavior.
Even the usually shy blenny were out and very active today.

Another highlight was our local “icon fish,” Scarbreast tuskfin, which often joins divers and swims alongside us.
Recently, it has been getting closer and closer—almost within arm’s reach.

Kushimoto is known for its rich marine biodiversity influenced by the Kuroshio Current.
Even common species here can be unique and exciting for international divers.
Golden Week inquiries have already started.
With the ocean warming earlier this year, it might even be possible to start diving in a wetsuit sooner than usual.
Come and experience Kushimoto’s underwater world this spring.
We look forward to diving with you!
