Today, we tried something a little different—a super macro nudibranch search from the beach in Kushimoto.
On the last day of the holiday, we followed our guest’s request for “super macro!” and did two dives: one in the Kushimoto area and one in the eastern Izumo area.
We usually search for nudibranchs during boat dives, but this time we found plenty even from the beach.
During the dive in Kushimoto, we found a great variety of Elysia species.
We observed Elysia lobata, Elyisia sp.7, Elysia obutusa, and more.
In just about 20 minutes, we counted 7–8 different species.
It was an impressive first dive, especially with the diversity of Elysia species .
After enjoying plenty of these species, we moved to another spot for the second dive and continued our nudibranch search.
Right away, we found a tiny 2mm .

We also spotted Facelina bourailli.

In addition, we found Goniobranchus setoensis and Hyselodoris serisae, among others.
Even from the beach, we were able to encounter a wide variety of nudibranchs.
Beach diving requires a slightly different approach compared to boat diving, both in how and where we search.
Since boat diving is the main style in Kushimoto, we will continue exploring and improving beach dive sites to provide even better experiences.
We were also amazed by our guest’s incredible ability to find 1mm-sized creatures one after another.
It was truly a super macro diving day.
Yesterday, we also attended the award ceremony for the 34th Kushimoto Underwater Photo Contest.
This was our first time participating since opening, and we are very happy to share that one of our guests won an award.
We are really proud—this is our first award-winning guest.
Next year will be the 35th contest, and we will do our best to sup
port more guests to join and enjoy underwater photography in Kushimoto.
We are also thinking about organizing future tours, including a Steller sea lion diving tour in Wakkanai, Hokkaido, and a macro diving tour in Rausu around early March.
