We Went on a Research Dive Today!
Today, we went on a research dive in Kushimoto.
Right now, Kushimoto is full of fascinating underwater behavior scenes such as spawning, egg guarding, and courtship.
The water temperature has finally reached 24°C, and marine life activity has increased dramatically!!
During today’s dive, we were lucky enough to witness several spawning scenes.
First was Pomacentrus nagasakiensis spawning.
They usually lay eggs deep inside narrow rock crevices, so it can often be difficult to photograph them. But today we got lucky♪
They spawned on the backside of an easy-to-see rock, and we were able to take some great photos!!
We also filmed videos, and we are planning to upload them to YouTube soon.
Around the nesting area, many males were carefully guarding the eggs.
We will probably be able to observe more damselfish egg-guarding behavior from now on(^^)
The gray area in the photo is the eggs. Pomacentrus nagasakiensis lay eggs in stages, so you can even enjoy the difference in color between older and newer eggs.
After enjoying the damselfish spawning and parenting behavior, we also found Anemonefish spawning!!
We were not specifically targeting spawning behavior today, but both species belong to the damselfish family. Watching their similar spawning behavior really reminded us that they are part of the same family.
Besides spawning scenes, we also observed Doryrhamphus dactyliophorus and Thecacera pacifica, along with many other marine creatures today. However, this time we decided to introduce only damselfish family photos in the blog♪
The water temperature in the nearby dive sites has finally reached 24°C, making it a very comfortable season for wetsuit diving!!
And when the water temperature reaches 24°C, one thing many divers start thinking about is coral spawning.
This is just my personal prediction, but we have decided to organize Coral Spawning Night Dives around the dates when I think spawning may happen?
Coral spawning can only be seen on a few nights each year.
Why not come and experience this magical underwater event with us?
Please check the information section below for more details.
We look forward to diving with you!!
Tomorrow, we are scheduled for fun diving in Kushimoto.
We are keeping an eye on Typhoon No.6, but the weekend conditions currently look fine!
