Kushimoto Fun Diving | Great Visibility Despite the Typhoon Swell!

Fun Diving with Guests from the U.S. and Japan

It was another beautiful sunny day in Kushimoto, with temperatures that still felt like summer.

With perfect weather for diving, we headed out for some fun diving with guests from the U.S. and Japan.

The visibility was fantastic again today♪ We had around 15–20m of visibility, and although the typhoon swell had started to arrive, it was hardly noticeable underwater.

However, the boat was rocking quite a bit on our final trip, so it looks like we will be diving inside the bay again tomorrow.

Today we enjoyed a wide variety of marine life, from wide-angle scenes to tiny macro subjects(^^)

From tiny nudibranchs to green sea turtles and schools of fish, there is such a wide variety of marine life to see at this time of year♪

Our first dive of the morning unexpectedly turned into a mainly macro dive.

First up was a tiny Murphydoris sp. 4. I really like this Japanese name because it is so memorable(^^)

Maybe I started with something a little too tiny??(^^;)

But both of our guests came over and took a close look with great interest(^^)

Following yesterday's find, we discovered another Phycocaris simulans in a new spot!!

I have a feeling we may start seeing more シムランス over the next little while♪

Yesterday's individual was reddish, while today's was white.

The swell made photography quite difficult today, but the stronger the movement of the water, the more slowly the shrimp seemed to move.

So in the end, it was actually easier to photograph!!

Just below it, we found Favorinus japonicus, a nudibranch well known for eating nudibranch eggs.

If you find nudibranch eggs, try looking around them. You might find one nearby.

Many different nudibranchs are mating and laying eggs at this time of year, so I think we may start seeing more of this nudibranch as well!!

Finally, let me show you some of today's wide-angle scenes.

First up is a school of striped butterflyfish, something I definitely want international divers to see when they dive in Kushimoto.

This fish is one of the representative fish of Kushimoto, so whenever we visit this dive site, it is a must-see that I always introduce to our guests.

With such clear water, we were also able to take our time watching an Green sea turtle.

This individual was very used to people and did not swim away at all. It calmly cruised around the divers(^^)

And one of the great things about Kushimoto is that you have the chance to swim with sea turtles while still being able to reach the area overland from Osaka or Nagoya!!

If you travel overland, it is also possible to return home on the same day after diving.

The visibility has improved again, and the water temperature is back above 26°C!!
Why not come and enjoy diving in Kushimoto while the high season is still going strong??
