Calm Seas in Kushimoto After the Storm♪
Today, I went fun diving with a guest from Singapore on a private one-on-one dive!
After yesterday’s big storm, the weather completely changed. It rained on and off today, but thankfully, the sea became calm again♪
Underwater visibility dropped slightly to around 10 meters, but there was no swell, and we were able to enjoy comfortable dives!
And today, we came across an amazing scene underwater.
While I was showing our guest an Cadlinella ornatissima, I noticed something unusual on its body.
“Hmm... is something attached to it?”
At first, I thought it might be a piece of seaweed.
But then I realized what it was...
An young Hypselodoris festiva!!
What an incredible coincidence!
Maybe this was something we could only see because of the storm♪
When I changed the angle and took another photo, the scene became surprisingly photogenic.
This was definitely the most exciting moment of the day (^^)
We found several other nudibranch combinations today as well.
Here were two Phestilla melanobrachia together, with a larger one just behind the other.
This photo might show just how many nudibranchs we have been seeing this summer.
We have also been seeing juvenile Bicolour Parrotfish here and there this year.
It is interesting how the species we see more frequently can change from year to year, perhaps depending on the currents.
This individual might be the same one I found before.
It was difficult to find over the weekend, but it appeared again on a quieter weekday with fewer divers (^^)
At the end of our second dive, we also encountered something big!
An Sponge crab!!!
It has large, powerful claws, so please keep a little distance when observing it underwater (^^;)
Typhoon No. 24, which we had been concerned about, is now forecast to weaken.
The sea is not completely flat yet, but it looks like we should be able to continue diving. Great news!!
The water temperature is still warm, and we can comfortably enjoy diving in wetsuits in Kushimoto.
There are plenty of fish, and this is a great time of year to enjoy everything from macro subjects to wide-angle scenery.
