Relaxing Beach Dives in Warm Summer Water
It was another hot summer day in Kushimoto!
Just walking outside was enough to make you sweat, so there was no better place to be than in the ocean.
Today, we enjoyed a relaxing day of beach diving.
As soon as we entered the water, we were surprised by how warm it was! It almost felt like stepping into a warm bath.
Sayo’s team enjoyed a refresher dive to get ready for tomorrow’s boat dives.
Right after entering the water, we were welcomed by a group of Kusafugu (Takifugu alboplumbeus). They always make us smile.
As we continued our dive, we found cooler patches of water here and there, along with a few areas where the visibility became a little cloudy.
Both guests quickly regained their diving skills, and it was hard to believe they had taken a break from diving.
Before long, we were simply enjoying the dive together.
We also found a Hanaminokasago (Pterois volitans), which is usually well hidden when I dive this site.
This time, our guests spotted it first and kindly pointed it out to me!

This summer, we welcomed another reliable staff member to our team, allowing us to offer a wider variety of diving courses.
With two guides available, we can now host fun dives and Discover Scuba Diving courses at the same time on more days than before.
While Sayo’s team enjoyed the refresher dive, I guided a couple from the United States on a Discover Scuba Diving experience.
She loves being in the water, while he was excited but also a little nervous before the dive.
They told us they would like to get their diving certification in the future, but first wanted to experience scuba diving and see what it was like.
We really wanted to make their first diving experience a memorable one.
As it turned out, there was nothing to worry about. Both of them were natural underwater.
As the dive continued, they quickly became comfortable with breathing underwater and controlling their buoyancy.
During the dive, we also found a large school of Gonsui (Plotosus japonicus).
Did you know that these young fish stay together in a tight group after hatching? It’s one of the fascinating sights you can see underwater.
By the second half of the dive, they looked just like certified divers.
They even started finding marine life on their own and pointing things out to each other.
We also introduced them to a small Kumanomi (Amphiprion clarkii), often called one of Japan’s “Nemo” fish.
When we returned to shore, both of them were all smiles. It was wonderful to see how much they had enjoyed their underwater adventure.
They hope to earn their diving certification by October, and we look forward to diving with them again someday.
Tomorrow, we’ll be heading out for boat dives and another Discover Scuba Diving course with today’s beach diving guests and our new visitors.
Now that the summer holidays have begun, we’re welcoming more guests every week.
With two guides on our team, we’re looking forward to introducing even more people to the beautiful underwater world of Kushimoto.
From now through October, fish life will continue to increase, making this one of the most exciting seasons of the year.
