Fun Diving in the Sheltered Kii-Oshima Area
Today marked the first day of May, and our first dive of the month was a fun diving trip in the Kii-Oshima area.
Due to a passing low-pressure system, the Kushimoto area was hit by very rough sea conditions, so we moved to the more sheltered Kii-Oshima area instead.
Although it was still windy in Sue, the waves were much calmer, and we were able to enjoy diving throughout the day without any problems!
Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the much-talked-about large group of Plesionika narval, but instead we were able to see many Japanese Bullhead shark on the dive site!!
Looking under the caisson, we found a large Japanese Bullhead shark waiting for us!
We even managed to take a great two-shot photo together♪

During a single dive, we observed a total of five Japanese Bullhead shark around the site. If you want to see Japanese Bullhead shark, the Sue area is highly recommended(^^)
Along the way, we also discovered a Muraenesox cinereus hiding in the rocks!!

ハモ are actually quite large fish. Many people may have never seen one in real life before, but they have surprisingly cute faces.
Another seasonal highlight right now is the spawning behavior of Bigfin reef squid.
We have already started seeing them in the Kushimoto area, and we were happy to find them in Sue as well.

Golden Week will fully begin from tomorrow. This year’s weather forecast seems to be changing every couple of days, so our diving areas may shift between Kushimoto, Sue, and Koza depending on the wind direction(^^;)
In a way, it keeps us very busy...
Tomorrow, the wind is expected to calm down compared to today, and it looks like we’ll be able to dive in the Kushimoto area again.
The weather forecast also looks good. Hopefully the wind settles down quickly.
May and June are extremely comfortable seasons for dry suit diving!!
Why not come and experience it for yourself?
See you next time!
