Nudibranch Diving in Kushimoto – Two Amazing Days

We had two full days of nudibranch-only diving here in Kushimoto!

Today, I’ll share highlights from both days in one post.

Yesterday was a very special day for us.

We had an international team with guests from Japan, the Netherlands, and Mexico, all searching for nudibranchs together.

Hearing English conversations and laughter in the shop—it was exactly the atmosphere we’ve been aiming for.

I was really happy to see it become a reality. We’ll keep working to create more days like this!

We started the dive with the long-staying Mexichromis aurora. It has been around for quite a while now—such a lucky find!

After that, we had a fun challenge:

a finding Placida babai competition!

Everyone tried to spot it first.

As a guide, I couldn’t lose… so I gave it my best—and managed to find it first!

Our guests this time were incredibly lucky.

The species we talked about kept appearing one after another.

And then, something unbelievable happened.

The Cyerce kikutarobabai we talked about yesterday…

appeared again today!

We didn’t even search for it yesterday, but it showed up the next day in the same area.

What amazing luck!

Unfortunately, it didn’t show up again later today, but just being able to encounter it again in the same place felt like a dream.

I hope it stays around a bit longer.

Over the two days, we found many different kinds of nudibranchs.

Even the rare “Thecacera pacifica” nudibranch, which has been scarce this year, made an appearance!

I’m really glad our guests could fully enjoy nudibranch diving over these two days.

There were many more sightings, but it would turn into a short novel if I shared everything—so I’ll keep it here for now!

Tomorrow, we continue with fun diving.

We’ll be diving with guests from Malaysia and Canada.

Another international team—looking forward to enjoying the ocean of Kushimoto together!
