Kushimoto Nudibranch Diving – Rare Find Day!

  • Kushimoto Nudibranch Diving – Rare Find Day!

  • Today we enjoyed a busy but exciting day in Kushimoto with two activities: nudibranch diving and a tide pool session.

The ocean conditions have been changing daily.

After yesterday’s surge, the swell suddenly calmed down today. We hope it stays this way tomorrow as well.

Water temperature has risen to around 22°C, making it very comfortable in a dry suit. The tide pool is also getting warm enough for a wetsuit, especially on sunny days.

During the boat dive, we focused on nudibranch hunting. At the very end of the dive, we encountered a very rare nudibranch.

It reminded us that if you keep searching and believing, you can always find something special underwater.

Before introducing that highlight, we found several other nudibranchs as well.

A very tiny Tambja morosa juvenile appeared today. It was less than 1 mm in size, almost impossible to focus on even with a macro setup.

We also observed Verconia simplex. Its round body and white coloration make it very cute.
Since it was feeding, it may stay in the same area for a while.

On the third dive, just before ascending, the rare Cyerce kikutarobabai suddenly appeared.

We were very surprised because we had not seen this species for a long time.

It is often said that this nudibranch appears during calm and sunny conditions. However, today was the opposite, with recent swell and cloudy skies. Once again, the ocean reminded us that nature does not always follow expectations.

While taking photos, small creatures kept getting in the way, like bodyguards protecting the nudibranch. It was difficult to capture a clean shot.

During the surface interval, we visited the tide pool.

We were able to observe many Barred-chin blenny in a beautiful green environment.
Guests enjoyed taking creative photos with reflections on the water surface.

The next tide pool session will be available from mid-May. It is a very shallow but unique underwater world, perfect for relaxed photography.

We still have availability from the last week of April to May 1st.

Both certified divers and non-divers are welcome. Please come and enjoy the underwater world of Kushimoto with us.

We are looking forward to seeing what we will discover tomorrow.
