Fun Diving in Kushimoto – Day 2 After a Night Dive
We started our fun diving with a guest from Spain from a night dive yesterday.
During the night dive, we observed Euprymna morsei and Scyllarus cultrifer, enjoying typical nocturnal marine life and their behavior.

Today, we continued with daytime diving, focusing mainly on macro.
Although the visibility was not great due to the recent rough sea conditions, it didn’t matter for our guest—who is a marine biologist. With great knowledge and curiosity, they fully enjoyed observing and photographing the behavior of marine life.
Among many encounters, the most impressive scene was the trailing behavior of Hypselodoris tryoni.

This behavior occurs when one individual detects pheromones released by another and follows it. It was a fascinating moment, especially for someone with a scientific background.
Since the guest is particularly interested in sea slugs, we continued the dive focusing on them.
We also found a very small Thuridilla albopustulosa
.
Interestingly, it is not classified as a nudibranch. Technically, “sea slug” and “nudibranch” have different species —something that reminds us how complex terminology can be.
Later, we observed , along with several other species commonly seen in Japan.
The Sporochnus dotyi season is also about to begin, which is something many divers look forward to.

It’s always interesting to dive with international guests. Species that are rare here may be common in other parts of the world, and we can learn a lot from each other.
Tomorrow, we are heading to a beach dive to enjoy Kushimoto’s beautiful coral reefs. We will be joined by a guest from France—looking forward to another international diving day.
We welcome divers from all over the world. Feel free to contact us if you are planning to dive in Kushimoto.
