Nudibranch Safari Day 2 in Kushimoto

A Full Day of Nudibranch Safari + Fun Diving

Today was Day 2 of our Nudibranch Safari, along with a full day of fun diving in the Kushimoto area!

Yesterday, the ocean in Kushimoto had large swells, but the water temperature was warm and comfortable. Today, we expected the swell to calm down… but unfortunately it stayed about the same.

On top of that, the water temperature changed dramatically overnight — a drop of 2°C.

However, there was also some good news: the visibility.

During the first dive of the morning, the water was crystal clear with over 20 meters of visibility!

In these beautiful conditions, we started the morning searching for nudibranchs. We were able to find some different species compared to yesterday.

First, we found Thorunna sp.4 feeding on a sponge. It was a relatively large individual and very easy to observe.

When the swell is strong, nudibranchs often hide. We also found Tenellia sp.62 quietly sheltering in a small gap between the rocks.

While searching for nudibranchs, we sometimes encounter other interesting creatures as well. One of them looked almost like a nudibranch at first glance!

On the final dive of the day, we came across a dramatic scene. A Phyllidiopsis xishaensis appeared to have been injured, possibly pecked by something, but it was still moving forward slowly.

The resilience of marine life is truly incredible. It makes you wonder what might have attacked it.

Although the swell gradually became stronger throughout the day, we still managed to complete three dives without being defeated by the conditions.

Tomorrow we will take a break from diving to prepare for the Kushimoto Underwater Photo Contest. The Nudibranch Safari will be held again the day after tomorrow.

We still have availability during the upcoming three-day holiday.
Last-minute bookings are very welcome, so please feel free to contact us!

See you then!
